FLOWER CARE
Make Your Flowers Last Longer

A Little Trim
At Houlton Floral Designs, we take good care of our flowers and make sure they are well trimmed and pruned before we sell them to our customers. This allows for better water intake, keeping the flowers hydrated and fresh for much longer.
Once the bouquet is in your hands, be sure to re-trim the flowers at an angle once every few days. This will help to ensure that your flowers are always getting a fresh drink as they continue to age.
Keep It Fresh
Fresh water is important for your blooms to flourish. We suggest that you change the water daily, or as often as you can remember, in order to keep bacteria from forming, reducing the life of your arrangement.
Pro tip: When changing the water in your vase, fill it with room temperature water and add in a packet of flower food. Make sure it is mixed well before adding your flowers back in.

The Extra Mile
Choosing the right location for your flowers can help them live their best life. Avoid displaying them in a window, in direct sunlight or near a heat source as this can cause them to dry out quickly. You also shouldn’t display your bouquet near fruit. That’s right, ripening fruits release tiny amounts of ethylene gas which can reduce the longevity of your fresh arrangement.
Finally, keep in mind that with mixed floral arrangements, some flowers may age faster than others. When flowers start to die off, you will want to remove them to prevent excess bacteria from building up. This will not only extend the life of your flowers, but keep your bouquet looking sharp!
